Deploying a Machine Learning Project in 2 hours

Through this mini-workshop, participants will learn how to develop and deploy a machine learning project to the cloud. Dr. Yu will demonstrate the adoption of applications such as GitHub, Heroku and Streamlit and how useful it is for these applications to be adopted in deploying machine learning projects.

About the Speaker

Dr. Yong Poh Yu received B.Eng. and PhD degrees from the University of Malaya in 2008 and 2016. He joined Altera Corp Penang (currently known as Intel PSG) as an application engineer in 2008. He worked as an assistant lecturer at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in 2010. He then joined Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) as a senior lecturer and programme leader for postgraduate programmes. He is now serving at AirAsia Digital as a lead technical trainer.

Dr. Yu is actively involved in project development for many years. His industry projects include healthcare dashboarding, digital marketing, sentiment analytics, Industry 4.0 and internet-of-things (IoT) applications etc. Specifically, he has been involved in data science and the machine learning domain for more than 13 years. He has also been conducting many professional training workshops, which cover data science, machine learning, big data, text and image analytics, Python and R etc.

Dr. Yu’s main research areas are unstructured data modelling (eg: image & text analytics), data science and analytics. During his PhD study, he developed mathematical models to estimate human heart rate from a sequence of video images. He also worked together with his colleagues to develop models for image and text analysis. When he worked as the post-doctoral research fellow, he mainly focused on bio-sensor signal processing and analytics, such as PPG signals. So far, he has published over 10 articles including ISI-ranked journal papers and international conference papers. He has also reviewed many ISI-ranked journal papers.

As for his professional developments, Dr. Yu accomplished the Enterprise Data Scientist programme, offered by Center of Applied Data Science, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation. He is also a SAS Certified Predictive Modeler, SAS Certified Visual Business Analyst, and SAS Certified Base Programmer. In 2018, he was recognized as a Professional Technologist by the Malaysia Board of Technologists. He accomplished the HRDF Train-the-trainer certification programme too.
