Enterprise Big Data Framework Alliance Announces the Big Data Awards Winners at The Big Data Days 2022 Virtual Conference
Bonn, Germany, May 26, 2022 – The Enterprise Big Data Framework Alliance announced the first ever winners of the Big Data Awards on May 25, 2022, during the closing ceremony of its third Big Data Days 2022 virtual conference.
The Big Data Awards is an initiative that acknowledges and celebrates organisations and individuals around the world that are excelling in the implementation of innovative Big Data, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence solutions. Winners of the awards will be considered by the Enterprise Big Data Framework Alliance to have demonstrated a novel application or an innovative approach in incorporating Big Data solutions or technologies, and to use data to accomplish sustainable business growth.
The Big Data Awards are open to participants from all over the world, and practitioners and organisations were able to submit their nominations until April 30th, 2022. The Big Data Awards Committee – consisting of three members – subsequently rated the nominations against the scoring criteria for each individual award. For the winning participants and organisations, a summary jury report was written.
The Big Data Awards were presented during the closing ceremony of the Big Data Days 2022 virtual conference. The Big Data Days 2022, a 2-day virtual conference which featured 30 speakers and 800 attendees from around the globe provided an opportune moment to present the first ever Big Data Awards. During the award ceremony, the Student of The Year, the Practitioner of The Year and the Project of The Year award recipients were revealed.
Big Data Awards 2022 – Practitioner of the Year
The Big Data Practitioner of the Year Award was presented to Mr. Chieh Wu from Taiwan. The Practitioner of the Year Award is to honour the Practitioner who is a strong Big Data advocate and has shown a continued commitment to implementing and contributing to best practices. Candidates for this award must demonstrate how they have led the adoption of best practices internally within their own organization, externally with other practitioner organizations or have influenced and contributed to best practice bodies of knowledge. These best practices can include: Big Data, Data Science, Analytics, Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence.
The Jury Report for this year’s Big Data Practitioner of the Year Award concluded:
“Out of all the submissions, Mr. Chieh Wu is recognised for his dedication and efforts to make the Enterprise Big Data Framework accessible in the Chinese Language. Mr. Chieh Wu not only translated the core books into Chinese, but also ensured the APMG examinations, rationales and syllabi have been made accessible in the Chinese language. In the process, Mr. Chieh Wu has become an active ambassador for increasing data literacy in South-East Asia.”

Big Data Awards 2022 – Student of the Year
The Big Data Student of the Year Award was presented to Mr. Yen-Chi Chen (Ryan) from Taiwan. The Big Data Student of the Year Award honours the achievement of students who excelled in obtaining the highest score in the Enterprise Big Data Framework course certifications. The Big Data Certification curriculum is a challenging program, for which students need to spend significant time in studying. To honour efforts of students that have gone above and beyond to achieve their certifications, this award honours the student with the highest marks (per calendar year) across the available Big Data courses.
The Jury Report for this year’s Big Data Student of the Year Award concluded:
“Mr. Yen-Chi Chen has been selected as the Enterprise Big Data Framework Student of the Year because he passed the EBDP and EBDA examinations with the highest marks in the calendar year 2021. Being the Student of the Year proves strong dedication to studying essential machine learning and statistics concepts and applying them in a practical setting. The jury would like to congratulate Mr. Ryan on his exceptional performance in achieving these results.“

Big Data Awards 2022 – Project of the Year
The Big Data Project of the Year Award was presented to British American Tobacco (BAT)’s Data & Analytics Team for their “100x value from Data & Analytics in 2025” internal project. The Big Data Project of the Year Award is awarded to a company that has created an innovative and strategic Big Data, Data Science, Analytics, Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence project, and is achieving impressive results from their innovative efforts. The Big Data Project of the Year is to recognize companies and projects that are making a proven and measurable impact. Project results can be expressed either in monetary terms (effectiveness or savings) or in a positive impact on society (people or planet).
The Jury Report for this year’s Big Data Project of the Year Award concluded:
“The Data & Analytics (D&A) Team at British American Tobacco (BAT) has been selected for their “100x value from Data & Analytics in 2025” internal project. This project has demonstrated a clear and demonstrated effort to transform an organisation through data strategy, data governance, data science, and the use of innovative algorithms to successfully serve global BAT markets. This projected has demonstrated the application of Big Data Best Practices, especially on data strategy and data governance. In addition, the jury recognizes the D&A team for establishing learning paths to increase data literacy across BAT.”
